In a heartfelt display of loyalty and passion, Los Angeles Dodgers' star pitcher Clayton Kershaw declared himself a "Dodger for life" during the team’s jubilant World Series championship parade on Friday. This declaration came amidst roaring cheers from the throngs of fans lining the streets of downtown Los Angeles, celebrating the Dodgers' recent triumph.

The Dodgers' victory parade was not just a festive event but a poignant moment for Kershaw, who, due to a painful bone spur in his left big toe, was sidelined throughout the playoffs. Despite his physical absence on the field during the postseason, Kershaw's spirit was ever-present with his teammates, culminating in a powerful speech that resonated deeply with both the crowd at Dodger Stadium and viewers nationwide.

"I've waited for this day for a long time," Kershaw told the massive assembly of blue-clad fans. "I can't imagine being anywhere else right now, and I can't imagine doing it with a better group of guys than this group right here. I’m at a loss for words, but I didn't have anything to do with this championship, but it feels like the best feeling in the world that I get to celebrate with you guys. Two-time champs and a lot more coming. Let's go!"

Amid speculation about his future, given the looming player option in his contract, Kershaw's commitment to the Dodgers was unwavering. Following the celebration, he confirmed to reporters his intention to stay with the team, further solidifying his iconic status within the storied franchise. He also disclosed plans for offseason surgeries on both his left toe and knee, though his return timeline remains uncertain.

The parade featured not just Kershaw but a galaxy of Dodgers stars, each contributing to the day’s high spirits. Shohei Ohtani, the two-way sensation, addressed the crowd in fluent English, reflecting on his rapid ascent to World Series champion with the Dodgers. Walker Buehler paid homage to Dodgers history by donning Orel Hershiser’s 1988 World Series jersey, while enjoying the festivities with youthful abandon.

Further emotional high points included Daniel Hudson announcing his retirement in a stirring speech and Mookie Betts humorously vowing to chase Derek Jeter's tally of five championship rings.

As Los Angeles basked in the glory of another World Series title, the day was also marked by a tribute to the late Fernando Valenzuela. On what would have been his 64th birthday, fans sang in unison, celebrating the legacy of the beloved pitcher.

The Dodgers’ victory parade not only celebrated their 2024 World Series win but also showcased the deep connections and poignant moments that make baseball a cherished sport in the heart of Los Angeles.
