Blue Heaven Opens for Business: Dodgers Launch 2026 Season in Style at Dodger Stadium

Back-to-back World Series champions begin their historic quest for a three-peat as Chavez Ravine erupts in celebration on Opening Day

LOS ANGELES, CA — March 26, 2026

The palm trees swayed, the F-35s screamed overhead, and 56,000 Dodger fans roared as one. Opening Day had arrived at Dodger Stadium — and this year, it carried the weight of something bigger than baseball.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, fresh off back-to-back World Series titles, officially launched their 2026 season on Thursday evening against the Arizona Diamondbacks, with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m. at Chavez Ravine. The result? An emphatic 8–2 victory that sent the sellout crowd home happy — and hungry for more.

But before the first pitch was thrown, Dodger Stadium itself became the stage for one of the most emotionally charged pregame ceremonies in recent memory.

A Champion's Welcome

Fans were encouraged to be in their seats by 4:45 p.m. for the pregame festivities — and those who arrived early were rewarded. The 2025 World Series pennant was raised high above center field by members of the Dodger ownership group, joined by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque down the right field line marking the franchise's ninth World Series title in history.

Lakers legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson — himself a symbol of LA championship glory — threw out the ceremonial first pitch to a thunderous ovation. Gospel singer and Dodger fan favorite Keith Williams Jr. delivered a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, punctuated by a dramatic flyover from two F-35C fighter jets from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine out of Edwards Air Force Base.

For an added layer of historic symbolism, recently retired future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw made his broadcast debut as an analyst — a beloved Dodger icon passing the torch to a new era while remaining part of the family.

On the Field: Yamamoto Delivers

The Dodgers came out swinging in their Gold Program uniforms — a special third kit celebrating the 2025 World Series title — and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the postseason hero of October 2025, took the mound to start Game 1. Despite D-Backs ace Zac Gallen keeping the Dodgers' high-powered offense quiet early, the home side eventually broke through in emphatic fashion, pulling away to an 8–2 final.

It was a statement win — the kind that tells the rest of the National League West exactly what kind of season Los Angeles has in mind.

The 2026 roster has been further reinforced by two blockbuster offseason additions: outfielder Kyle Tucker, who signed a four-year, $240 million deal after a stellar 2025 campaign with the Cubs, and closer Edwin Díaz, who arrives from the Mets on a three-year, $69 million contract after recording 28 saves and a 1.63 ERA last season. Together, they address what were considered the only remaining weak links in an otherwise dominant roster.

DodgerFest: The Party Before the Party

The Opening Day excitement was the culmination of weeks of fan celebration that began on January 31 with the annual DodgerFest at Dodger Stadium — the ultimate pregame warm-up for the new season.

Running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., DodgerFest gave thousands of fans unprecedented access to their favorite players through autograph sessions, meet-and-greets, photo opportunities, and a 90-minute centerpiece stage show hosted by Dodger broadcasters Joe Davis and Stephen Nelson. Players including Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, and Miguel Rojas took the stage for candid conversations — including Ohtani delivering a now-tradition of speaking in English, drawing one of the loudest reactions of the day.

VIP experiences offered fans clubhouse tours, a Vin Scully Press Box tour, a Jackie Robinson legacy tour, and the chance to take photos with the 2024 and 2025 World Series trophies — a two-year stack of gold that no other franchise in the modern era can currently claim.

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation also held its annual Yard Sale and Mystery Bag fundraiser, with proceeds supporting education, healthcare, homelessness prevention, and social justice programs across Los Angeles.

Chasing History

The storyline of the 2026 Dodgers season writes itself: Los Angeles is pursuing a World Series three-peat — a feat accomplished only once in the modern era, by the New York Yankees from 1998 to 2000. Should the Dodgers complete the mission, they would stand alone as the dynasty of the 21st century.

One win in. One hundred and sixty-one to go.

At Dodger Stadium on Opening Day 2026, that journey felt less like a dream and more like a destination.
